If You Don’t Have Anything Nice To Say….

I believe everyone has a right to a verbal opinion.

However, I believe that right can be lost when the opinion is meant to intentionally cause a negative effect to the audience and/or the individuals within hearing distance of the speaker.  By negative, I mean anything that offends, provokes or is even forced upon others.  Usually, anything within this type of category is intimidation and its nothing more than plain ignorance with a lost sense of respect.

I don’t understand how our country, which I am proud to be apart of, has such a thing as free speech, and yet,  hate groups exist from the KKK to even religious chapters that have such influence and intimidation on others, have also been soley responsible for some of the most unforgivable violence across our nation that includes hate crimes, bombings, and even harmful acts from lost morals.

What is interesting to think about is how media advertisements have some kind of fine print that informs the buyer about the product.  For example, “results may vary” and ”experience may change.”  The interesting part is that just like the ad, the speaker of ignorant speech is trying to sell you something where indeed the” results may vary.”  The nation has programs designed to put restraint on channels of media for the public but I think it should expand to the individual who is exposed to the public on a frequent basis.

I don’t think my view is extreme but it is different and when the weight of my view is compared to views like ignorant speech that negatively affects a larger whole, which would the world be better off without? The old world is just that: old, the world keeps spinning, time is always changing, and the only thing that seems constant is change. So shouldn’t the old ideas change as well?
